STILL WAITING
There are songs you write with your mind. And then there are songs you write with your heart. When I was thinking about the story behind Still Waiting, I found myself with tears in my eyes, because I kept thinking about how much suffering and cruelty can exist in the world toward those who would never betray us. Still Waiting is the story of our best friend on four legs. Loyal, Innocent, Defenceless. A creature that asks for so little, yet gives us everything: trust, companionship, unconditional love, and a heart that never keeps score. The story is told through the eyes of a dog who has been left behind. He doesn’t understand what happened. He doesn’t know why the person he loves has gone away. He doesn’t become angry. He doesn’t stop believing. He simply waits. He waits through the rain. He waits through the cold nights. He waits for every car that passes. He raises his head at every voice, hoping to hear the one voice he knows. And even when the world walks past him, he remains faithful. Because he doesn’t know how to abandon the person he loves. Perhaps that is the hardest part of this story. We often think that animals need us. But sometimes, I wonder if we are the ones who need to learn from them.
Still Waiting is dedicated to every abandoned animal, to every dog waiting behind a shelter gate, on a roadside, in a forgotten corner of the world — and to every person who has ever stopped to help one of them. I wrote this song because their silence deserves a voice. A song with a purpose I would like Still Waiting to become more than a song.
I would be honored to make it available to animal protection organizations, shelters, rescue groups and associations that would like to use it for awareness campaigns, educational projects, fundraising initiatives, videos, social campaigns or other activities dedicated to protecting animals and fighting abandonment and cruelty. If you are an organization or association and believe Still Waiting could help tell your story or support your cause, please contact me through the Contact section of this website.
I would be happy to hear from you. Because somewhere, there may still be someone waiting. And they deserve to know that they have not been forgotten.
STILL WAITING
You took me down a quiet road
You said, “Just wait, I won’t be long”
I laid beside a wall of stone
Still thinking nothing’s wrong
My blanket smells a bit like you
The food you left, I keep it near
I didn’t cry, I didn’t run
I just stayed waiting here
And I’m still waiting
Under stars and falling rain
Still believing
You’ll come back and call my name
If I did something wrong
Tell me what to change
But don’t forget me—
I’m still waiting
Each car that passes makes me move
Each voice I hear, I raise my head
Some people look, then walk away
Like I was never there
Yes, I’m still waiting
Under stars and falling rain
Still believing
You’ll come back and call my name
If I did something wrong
Tell me what to change
But don’t forget me—
I’m still waiting
I’m still waiting
Though the nights are cold and long
Still believing
Even if you’re really gone
If love meant anything
Please come and set me free
I never moved, I never strayed—
I stayed where you left me
